Our business and personal relationship with Whit go back many years. He was a wonderful man of many talents as well as being so kind, thoughtful and generous to others. Above all he was a family man and his family meant just everything to him. He was a gifted architect and my husband John and Whit worked together for many years, first with the Whittier Associates and then as founding partners in Dore and Whittier Architects. They shared a genuine lasting friendship over the years. We will miss him, the story-telling and his truly infectious laughter.
May God bless........

Uncle Roland was larger than life with a laugh as big as his heart. He charmed and entertained all with his wit and good humor. He was especially kind and generous with his family. He was a joy to be near. My father Roderick spoke with pride about his younger brother and often mentioned his exceptional abilities as an athlete, especially baseball where he played on the Woodsville men's team when still a boy in high school. He will be missed.

Roland and my husband Jim Inman shared an apartment at Shelburne Bay Residence these last two years.
What a distinguished, gracious, warm gentleman he was. A twinkle still in his eye. I would ask "How are you Roland?" and his reply - "Better now that I see you."
It was my and Jim's privilege to know Roland and to share that last week with his wonderful family. Blessings on you all.

Whit was such a warm-hearted person. He had a smile on his face whenever you met him. I had the pleasure of meeting Whit when I interviewed for Dore & Whittier Architects, 24 years ago. Over the years, he was always sincerely interested in knowing how my kids and family were doing and hearing about them. Whenever he and his friend, John Dore, would get together, you would have to brace yourself for a competition of story-telling, each one trying

A truly fine gentleman of enormous talents and great wit. A fantastic story teller with great details.
He was a forward thinker and was far younger in mind than his age ever showed.
He was devoted to his beloved wife, son and family and very proud of his tow grandsons. God's speed Rolland.

So many, many memories of Mr. Whittier. I went to school in a building constructed from his plans, I lived in a dorm at Johnson designed by him, The interior of my home church in which his memorial service will be held is a treasure conceived by him. He will be missed. Love to his family.
