Christine F. Charron of Burlington passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her children on Saturday, June 10, 2017 - two days shy of her 75th birthday. She was born in Burlington, VT on June 12, 1942 the daughter of the late Henry and Regina (Penell) Fitzsimons. Christine was educated at Cathedral Grammar School and went on to graduate from Rice Memorial High School in 1960. On February 16, 1963 she married the love of her life, George Charron, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Burlington, VT. Christine and her family were longtime parishioners of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Burlington, Vermont. Throughout the years she was an active member of the Home and School Association, Youth Group and Parish Council at St Joseph's. When her children were older she went on to work at the Chittenden Bank and later as a temp at IBM. Christine was a master conversationalist and a gifted listener who had a knack for easily making friends for life, whether through school, work, church, the neighborhood, or simple random encounters. She was exceptionally talented at knitting and crocheting and took great pride in the creations and gifts she crafted. She enjoyed passing time by attending Bingo, doing word searches and jigsaw puzzles, and playing cards and board games, especially with her grandchildren. She was an avid sports fan spending many late nights watching baseball, basketball, football and hockey games on television. She also enjoyed many good times out with friends as a member of the Elks Club in Burlington. Christine dearly loved her husband George from the time they first met as teenagers and through his death in 2001. He brought endless joy into her life especially when he was singing and playing guitar. They hosted many great parties in their home full of laughter and music. Christine cherished her time raising her five children and listening to, encouraging and supporting her ten grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends while welcomed into heaven by the music of her loving George. Christine is survived by her five children Mark Charron and his partner Melody Sloan of Concord, NC, Timothy Charron of Winooski, Jean Benoit and husband Steven of Burlington, Denise Haggerty and husband Michael of Burlington, Jeffrey Charron and wife Kristen of Braintree, MA; 10 grandchildren, Meghan Tramacera and husband Mark of Milton, PA, Kyle Charron of Concord, NC, Emma Benoit of Burlington, VT, Micaela, Sarah, Bridget, Kasey, and Lucy Haggerty of Burlington, VT, Jeffrey Charron, Jr., and AnnMarie Charron of Braintree, MA ; her sisters Mary O'Neil of Richmond, VT and Ann Murdock of Houston, TX; her brother Patrick Fitzsimons and wife Meg of Burlington and her brother-in-law Russell Charron and wife Sue of Williston; and by many nieces, nephews, and cousins, especially one special cousin, Tommy Maguire of Swanton, VT. Besides her parents Christine was predeceased by her husband George on February 6, 2001; her mother and father-in-law Frank and Valeta Charron; brother and sister-in-law Richard and Wendy Charron; and by many aunts and uncles. She was also predeceased by a very special aunt, her namesake, Sister Mary Christina, RSM. The family would like to offer a special thank you to Dr. John Wright, the staff at Birchwood Terrace Healthcare, VNA, and the Endoscopy staff at UVMMC especially Dr. Mario Velez, for their kindness and wonderful care given to Christine during her illness. Further special thanks go to Christine's granddaughters Micaela Haggerty, Sarah Haggerty, and Emma Benoit for the selfless care, love, and comfort they provided Christine during the last few months of her life. It was instrumental in allowing Christine to be where she truly wanted to be, in her own home at the time of her passing. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, June 12, 2017 from 4PM to 7PM at the Ready Funeral & Cremation Service South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Rd. Burlington.
