Joan Elizabeth Kellie, 75, of Burlington, died peacefully on Saturday, March 3rd 2018 at the McClure Miller VNA Respite House, surrounded by family after a battle with Alzheimer's. She was born on September 11th 1942 in Bridgeport, Connecticut, the eldest daughter to Ernest and Josephine Wigglesworth. She graduated from Stratford High School in 1960 and Yale University Grace New Haven School of Nursing in 1963, where she made several lifelong friends. She was married in California to David Kellie in 1967 and started a family in Connecticut before moving to Vermont in 1977. She soon after began her long and distinguished career at the VNA before retiring in 2008. Many of her friends from the VNA and from nursing school spent time with her during this difficult last year and she cherished those visits. Suzanne Archacki was her best friend and should be mentioned particularly for all the time, effort, and care she gave Joan always, especially this last year. Joan was an avid quilter, cherished time spent with her book club, going to the theater, and attending craft shows. She was predeceased by her husband in 2003. She is survived by her sons Joshua Kellie and his wife Abby of Burlington, and Adam Kellie and his wife Alison of Arlington, Massachusetts and her granddaughter Alexandra. She is also survived by her siblings Ruth McDonald and Ernest Wigglesworth and his wife Jeanette, and also by her sister-in-law Patricia Dunton and her husband Ted, as well as a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at the McClure Miller VNA Respite House in Colchester where she received truly compassionate care. No services will be held. Donations may be made to the McClure Miller VNA Respite House, 1110 Prim Road, Colchester, Vermont 05446.
