Mary Ann Nolan passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 10, 2017, following a brief illness. Mary Ann (Burke) Nolan was born December 8, 1940, in Rutland, Vermont. She lived with her late husband, James E. Nolan, Jr. and children Jeffrey J. Nolan and Jacqueline Nolan Mazza, in Derby Line, Barre, and East Brookfield, Vermont, then after the death of James in 1995 she lived in Barre and Williston, Vermont. Mary Ann was predeceased by her father Howard Burke, her mother Marcella Burke, her siblings, Dolores Parizo, Clara Matava, Frances Walker, Berna Seward, and Howard Burke, Jr. Mary Ann is survived by many nieces and nephews. Mary Ann retired in the late 1990s from a long career as a bookkeeper. In recent years, Mary Ann thoroughly enjoyed the company of her neighborhood friends, who were very kind to her. Mary Ann loved dearly, and was dearly loved by, her children, her daughter-in-law Beth Taylor-Nolan, her son-in-law Mike Mazza, her grandchildren, Seamus Nolan and Maeve Nolan, and her little dog Lucy. Mary Ann was happiest when spending time with her family, which she got to do often. She derived great joy from holiday gatherings, family brunches, impromptu drop-in visits at her home, and daily phone conversations with her children and grandchildren. She was perennially optimistic, generous, selfless, and rightfully proud of her ability to live independently, despite significant physical challenges. Recently, she attended her granddaughter's performance in the Nutcracker ballet; this was no small feat for her, but she was thrilled to be there for Maeve. Mary Ann Nolan was a gracious, strong, lovely woman. This world is a less kind place without her. She will be missed terribly, but would only want to be remembered fondly, so that even her passing would not trouble those she loved, and who loved her so. A memorial service and burial will be held at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in the Spring.
