Sister Mary Clare Naramore, RSM, 102, of the Sisters of Mercy Northeast Community, Vermont, died at Mt. St. Mary's Convent in Burlington on, April 12, 2017, in her 73 year of Religious Life. Sr. Clare was born in Lowell, VT May 28, 1914, the daughter of Louise (Stephenson) and Donald Naramore. She attended Lowell grade school and Peoples' Academy in Morrisville, VT. She also attended Strayer Business College in Washington, DC. and graduated from the University of Vermont with a degree in Education. Before entering the Sisters of Mercy, she taught in Lowell Village and Westfield School and worked as a clerk in the Valley Savings Bank. Sister became a Catholic in 1942 and entered the Sisters of Mercy on September 8, 1944 and made her profession of vows on May 16, 1947. She taught in Parochial schools in Burlington, Barre and Montpelier. Following her retirement from education Sr. Clare went as a volunteer missionary to Matsu, China for eleven years. When she returned from China, Sr. Clare worked in prison and hospital ministry and continued to keep in touch with her many friends in Matsu. Throughout her years of ministry Sr. Clare gently touched so many lives. When she was no longer able to teach, she ministered to the Sisters of Mercy and kept in prayer, her family, friends, Sisters of Mercy and all those to whom she ministered. She is survived by her nieces Mrs. Mary Speroni and Nancy Naramore; a cousin, Mrs. Irene Hayes; many special friends and also by her sisters in religion, the Sisters of Mercy. She was predeceased by her parents, Donald and Louise (Stephenson) Naramore and her brother William Naramore Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 11:00 am in Mt. St. Mary Chapel. Visiting hours will be 6:00 pm-8:00 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm on Monday, April 17, 2017 at Mt. St. Mary's. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Sisters of Mercy in support of their ministerial works, in care of the Local Coordinator, Administrative Office, 100 Mansfield Avenue, Burlington, VT 05401. Arrangements are in the care of the Ready Funeral Home South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Road, Burlington.
