Merle was born on May 11, 1926 and passed away on Friday, July 5, 2019.

Merle was a resident of Burlington, Vermont at the time of passing.

He enrolled at Saint Michael's College on the GI Bill and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in 1951.

He was then deployed as a hospital apprentice first class on multiple Navy ships stationed in Japan during World War II.
