Sara Parks Thompson, 73, of Hinesburg died surrounded by her loving family on Monday July 17, 2017. She was born in Newton, NJ on January 22, 1944 the daughter of Scott and Mary (Willetts) Parks. She attended school in New Jersey and was a graduate of West Morris High School Class of 1962. She was a graduate of both Rutgers University and the University of Texas and received a Master's Degree from the University of Vermont in 1997. Sara and Arthur moved to Vermont in 1967 where Sara taught at the Mary Fletcher School of Nursing. She began working at the Visiting Nurses Association where she was the Director of Nursing and an integral part of the team that brought the Hospice Program to the State of Vermont. Sara ended her career in healthcare as the Executive Director of the Arbors and the Pillars while serving on the Governor's Commission on Alzheimer's Disease. Sara loved traveling, whales and spending time with her family and friends. Sara is survived by her husband of 50 years, Arthur T. Thompson of Hinesburg; her daughter Mary E. Thompson of Hinesburg; granddaughter Sarah L. Hayes also of Hinesburg; her sister Phyllis Owens of Hendersonville, NC; brothers S. David Parks, William Parks and James Parks of Chester NJ; also many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the United Church of Hinesburg on Saturday July 29, 2017 at 3 PM. Following the service the family will receive friends at the Osborne Parish Hall behind the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her memory to the United Church of Hinesburg, Hinesburg VT or the McClure Miller Respite House, Colchester VT. The family would like to thank the staff of both the Visiting Nurse Association and the McClure Miller Respite House along with Doctor Unger and the staff at Champlain Valley Oncology and Hematology for their amazing care.
